Three pairs of horizontal-arm coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) provide Alcoa Technical Center with the dedicated measuring muscle it needs to assemble and inspect aluminum automobile frames and subassemblies. Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) will supply all-aluminum frames to Chrysler Corp. for use on the 1997 Plymouth Prowler, a limited-production "street-rod" convertible that Chrysler will begin building this fall for delivery next spring. Alcoa is readying a plant in Northwood, OH, to produce Prowler frames, as well as aluminum components for other automobile companies.
