While the stamped parts to be produced largely dictate the sequence and methodology of a metal stamping tool operation, the designer still must make decisions throughout the design process. These decisions have to do with choices. A few examples of the choices might be: 1. Materials to be used in the tool; 2. Types of coatings on materials; 3. Types of piercing punches; 4. Types of die bushings; 5. Types of die sets and guide posts/bushings; 6. Types of springs; 7. Types of stock lifters; 8. Method of tool maintenance; 9. Method of retention in the press; 10. Implementation and types of sensors.
