摘要

With a population of 209 million, Brazil is full of growing cities and residents that are dependent on cars. This combination of factors is driving the need to develop efficient public transport networks quickly, yet public finances seem insufficient to achieve this. Of the 63 medium and large metropolitan regions, only 13 have any kind of urban rail, according to passenger rail operators' association ANPTrilhos. This number could grow, however, as private operators and new lines built through PPP concessions are expected to spread throughout the country. ANPTrilhos suggests that the government of Jair Bol-sonaro, inaugurated in January, is committed to using this approach to meet the country's transport needs. ANPTrilhos President Joubert Flores told Metro Report International that he believes in the success of lines built on the PPP model.
