Many design firms are quick to tout their fondness for breaking the rules, but for lighting design firm Lighting Workshop the appeal often lies in creating them. "We like to set rules for ourselves. For instance, we'll say 'For this project, we'll conceal all of our lighting fixtures or we won't put any downlights in the ceiling,'" explains Doug Russell, founder and president. "I think this keeps us from taking the straight line to the easiest solution, and helps us solve problems in creative ways."
