E-learning presents a new context for institutional repositories, which have been silos in academic practice since the emergence of course management systems and advanced digital libraries. CMSs like Blackboard and others support hybrid and fully online courses. The growing volume of digital content-including digital humanities data, scientific data, patents, digitized special collections, and born-digital materials-presents faculty with new models for incorporating IRs in their online courses as they have done with other library resources before.
