U.S. military researchers are kicking off a project to develop enabling technologies to counter the growing threat of enemy hypersonic missiles and aircraft. Officials of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in Arlington, Va., issued a broad agency announcement in November for the Glide Breaker program to counter enemy hypersonic vehicles — or those that can fly faster than five times the speed of sound.
