In addition to the ongoing evolution of tactical fuel distribution capabilities across the battlefield, the US Army and USMC have developed parallel activity tracks over the past few years, focused on a range of critical energy saving/management issues that will combine to reduce fuel demands in future combat environments. The cornerstone of such efforts is the USMC's Experimental Forward Operating Base (ExFOB) programme. It encompasses a series of semiannual events designed to explore available technologies that could enhance the logistics sustainability of marines operating across the full spectrum of military tasks, from humanitarian assistance to major combat operations.
