For decades, aerial refuelling has been a critical capability among the world's air forces, yet the platforms that served that purpose have been some of the most aged in the inventory. Today, much of the USAFs fleet of KC-135 Stratotankers is more than 40 years old and its KC-10 Extenders are pushing 30. On the other side of the Atlantic, the RAF continues to rely on VC1 Os and TriStars which enjoyed long airline careers before entering military service.
