My time with 4th BCT, combined with that from earlier assignments working around MiTT teams in Iraq, has provided me with insight and experience regarding how the U.S. Army can improve the career management of advisors. In my view, the BCT is the proper formation of choice for SFA and other capacity-building missions due to its inherent mission command strengths and its wide array of tailorable capabilities. In contrast, even if it were desirable, the wholesale creation of specialized units to perform advising missions overseas is not realistic in the current environment.
