Educating america s military is essential reading for anyone, especially policymakers, involved in the professional military education (PME) arena. Dr. Joan Johnson-Frccse provides a series of well-written, soundly researched, and even-handed arguments in a readable essay form. Her book is a profound description of what's right and what's wrong in PME complete with the gray areas of continuing debate. I found myself scribbling notes on virtually every page, many with exclamation marks or asterisks where I too had experienced similar debates and conclusions in my combined ten years as an academic at the U.S. Army War College, Command and General Staff College, and Logistics University.
