Synthetic Wrap fills the gaps that are often prevalent in military training. It uses game-based technology and accurate geophysical terrain database (e.g. in VBS2/3/Unreal/Unity/XVR) to allow every suitably equipped participant to simultaneously conduct, observe and affect the training both on the live exercise in the 'real' world and in a duplication of the exercise in the 'virtual' world. This virtual terrain database is based accurately on the real world -both the training area where the live firing exercises are normally held (such as Salisbury Plain and Suffield) but increasingly in the more representative future operational environment of local towns and citiesi. These can now be written into the exercise scenario from the outset to increase training realism for command training. The difference between a classroom computer game and this immersive training environment is that many of the actors are real and the actions of their avatars in the game are slaved, through instrumentation and the provision of accurate emulations of their real equipment, to what they are actually doing in real life in the real exercise area and environment. Some participants experience the real effect (firing a weapon) while others will only see, hear and/or feel the synthetic effect of the same action in the exercise. While some of the avatars in the exercise are 'real', some are virtual/synthetic, such as aircraft, UAS, and missiles, but, as they are all operating on the same network these wholly virtual capabilities can have a direct effect on all aspects of the exercise.
