摘要

A confluence of events on battlefields around the globe is encouraging land forces to field more and increasingly capable remote weapon stations (RWS). The persistent threat of IEDs, more accurate weapons for snipers and other dynamic threats to ground vehicles are compelling land forces to place their gunners under the vehicle's roof and behind armour. At the same time the combat effectiveness of RWS is increasing. New RWS help vehicle crews prevent collateral damage among civilians, and friendly or neutral forces, and provide the vehicle commander with a new offensive capability.
