Egyptian Navy Refreshes its Submarine Fleet: The first Type 209/1400 submarine (Yard No. 447) for the Navy of the Arabic Republic of Egypt was named (S 41) and launched at the shipyard of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems in Kiel on 10 December 2015. Following extensive sea trials that were initiated in the same month, the first-in-class will be delivered to Egypt in 2016. This marks an important milestone in the ongoing submarine programme for the Egyptian Navy, said the shipbuilder. Representing the largest maritime force in the MENA region, with two different fleets operating in the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, the Egyptian Navy is about to receive a modern and robust submarine design. This type also attracted the interest of other nations, including Brazil, South Africa, and Turkey.
