In 2015, the domestic political scene in Poland experienced many changes. In May 2015, President Bronislaw Komorowski from Platforma Obywatelska (PO - Civic Platform) lost the elections to Andrzej Duda. This was a tremendous shock to the ruling party, who suffered another setback in October, when, after eight years, it lost the majority in parliament. A new government was formed by Prawo i Sprawiedliwosc (PiS - Law and Justice; right-wing with a leftist economic programme, heavily influenced by Christian values, who already where at the head between 2005 and 2007). Soon after its victory, PiS was accused of, "destroying democratic foundations of the country." The most important elements were: A crisis over elections of new judges for the constitutional court, and the pardoning of the former head of the Central Anticorruption Bureau, who was earlier sentenced (however, not by a legally binding sentence) to three years in prison and a 10-year ban on the exercise of a public office, due to the abuse of power and illegal phone tapping.
