"We are trying to fully qualify people for the aircraft [UAS] with less air experience. But the big-gest challenge we face is that flying the simulator Is like playing softball, flying the aircraft is like baseball. The game looks similar but responses are very different." So said Lt.Col. Leland Cowie II, Commander of the 11 Reconnaissance Squadron (11 RS), during a presentation at IQPC's recent UAS Training and Simulation conference (9-10 December 2015) in London. The particular specialist skills that are crucial are launch and landing, as well as an ability for sensor operators to multi-function during busy periods.
