North Korea's testing of nuclear devices again alarmed the international community. The latest test on 9 September of a nuclear warhead that can be mounted onto rockets, according to North Korean sources, had an estimated yield of 20-30 kilotons. According to the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), Germany, it has initially estimated the yield at 25kt, based on data from the International Monitoring System (IMS). The BGR is affiliated with the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) which operates the IMS.
