The Polish MoND has begun the public procurement procedure for VIP transport aircraft, to include training and logistics packages and technical documentation. The project will be funded from a special government financial reserve outside the national defence budget, which is currently estimated at 2% of GDP. Two small and three medium-sized aircraft are required, including one in a passenger configuration, intended to transport senior political and military officials. The current plan is to select the small aircraft this year while the medium-sized aircraft, equipped with air defence systems, will be chosen during the first quarter of 2017. One of the larger aircraft will be from existing equipment, while two will be new procurement. Current requirements indicate the small aircraft must be capable of taking 12 to 14 passengers, mostly to be used for flights within Poland and across Europe, although flights to the east coast of the United States have not been ruled out. The medium-sized aircraft should be able to accommodate 65-100 passengers.
