One of the lessons learned during recent British operations in Afghanistan and Libya, and currently against IS forces, is the paramount importance of ISTAR to the battlefield commanders. With shrinking budgets in most Armed Forces, the opportunity to train with real fast jet Close Air Support (CAS) platforms and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is significantly reduced, while the requirement to train has not diminished. 3DSL, a provider of acquisition services to defence and security clients around the world, manned by experienced former RAF specialists and Aerospace Battle Managers, provides forward live air controller/joint terminal attack controller (FAC/JTAC) training with Diamond DA42 Multi-Purpose Platform (MPP) aircraft equipped with a L-3 WESCAMMX15HDi EO/IR sensor and appropriate military communications and downlink systems, flown by ex-military fast jet aircrew.
