Sometime in 2017, the first GPS Ⅲ satellite should be available for launch. The new generation of spacecraft, of which it will form the vanguard, is designed to deliver Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) signals three times more accurately than today, and to provide military users with an eightfold improvement in jamming resistance. Third generation satellites, associated ground control segments and user equipment represent the US government's commitment to improving and maintaining the world's premier global PNT system for both civil and military users. However, recent reports have highlighted a long list of risks to the sustainment of current capabilities and the timely fielding of new ones.
