While the tempo of US military missions slows in Afghanistan, contracts continue to be issued for new ammunition. The Pentagon continues to develop new ammunition types, and defence companies are adjusting their business models to enter, or remain competitive, as suppliers in this market. Even as US military operations evolve from primarily supporting missions in Iraq and Afghanistan to defeating IS terrorists and other activities, the services continue to have an insatiable demand for ammunition. One service perspective on US military demand for ammunition was provided by Scott Rideout, the programme manager for Ammunition at USMC Systems C6mmand (MCSC), responsible for managing almost U$9 billion in ground ammunition and explosives inventory from production through disposal for the USMC.
