摘要

The tank emerged in WWI to break through trench defences and then became the decisive arm of ground combat during WWII. Tanks provided the mobility, firepower and shock action to win tactical engagements, create and exploit operational manoeuvres, and create strategic opportunities. During the Cold War, the MBT and its support systems were perfected as more than 100,000 tanks faced each other across the NATO-WARSAW PACT border, preparing for high-intensity combined arms battle.
