Is Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research (SESAR) finally finding its groove? The EP granted the programme 10 more years, and some key technology projects are showing promise. Florian Guillermet, the new Executive Director of the SESAR Joint Undertaking (JU), appears to be taking over at a good time. The European Parliament voted almost unanimously in mid-April 2014 to extend the programme for another 10 years. The EU Council of Ministers is expected to adopt the final act this summer. Also in April, the European Defence Agency (EDA) established a new team - SESAR Cell - focused on providing in-house expertise and coordinating with Ministries of Defence to ensure that military views and requirements are taken into account in the implementation of SESAR. The EDA will work closely with the European Commission, the SESAR JU, NATO, and Eurocontrol.
