摘要

Modern radars are challenged to identify and distinguish targets rapidly from clutter, decoys and jamming as cruise missiles sneak up over the horizon, ballistic missiles plunge from space, and stealthy air vehicles and munitions grow in diversity and deadliness. They are increasingly multifunction sensors combining surveillance with target tracking and fire control in a networked environment that demands real time data sharing, handing off targets to one another and control of diverse missile types. Modular construction, software definition and open architectures are transforming the potential for upgrading these systems and extending their operational lives, while old distinctions between land-based and naval radar systems are blurring as technology and - in the case of AEGIS Ashore - hardware shift between environments.
