摘要

The US and its allies belatedly achieved a balance on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan against IED dangers. In an era of overall shrinking defence budgets, it is imperative to continue the short- and long-term momentum technology quest for excellence in this sector. With the end of the main combat phases of the ground wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon is decreasing its investment in C-IED programmes through the budget out years. On 7 August, an Office of the Secretary of Defense's public affairs spokesperson noted fewer dollars continue to be requested for C-IED programmes when compared to the height of the ground wars in the two nations. He declined to elaborate, as the budget had not been enacted in public law. One snapshot of the budget reality facing the Pentagon through the end of this decade is evident in Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization's (JIEDDO) effort to reduce its staff "to about 975 people," by 1 October 2014, according to Melissa Tune, a public affairs specialist in the organisation's Public Affairs Division.
