The Dutch MoD awarded Microflown AVISA a €1 milliom R&D contract to adapt its game changing Acoustic Vector Sensor for installation on vehicle platforms. The WHELAC (WHEeLedACoustics) project will have a duration of two years. Acoustic Vector Sensors will be mounted on reconnaissance vehicles, armoured personnel carriers and tracked vehicles, providing them with an all-around, full spherical, 3D acoustic situational awareness. In general Acoustic Vector Sensors can be used for locating and classifying all sorts of threats, not only Small Arms Fire (SAF), but also Rocket, Artillery, Mortar (RAM), RPG's, helicopters and ground vehicles. The multi-threat detection capability with just one Acoustic Vector Sensor is unique. Besides multi-threat, advanced de-confliction algorithms are being developed for multi-event scenarios. Since the Acoustic Vector Sensors are very small, lightweight and low power, they can also be used on other platforms, such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicleps (UAV) or on dismounted soldiers. Moreover, Microflown AVISA will be exhibiting at IDEX2013 and showing the latest developments in the field of Acoustic Vector Sensor technology. Microflown AVISA's Ground based and UAV based applications can be seen in Hall 10 at booth number D35.
