The People's Republic of China (PRC) has security concerns that cover traditional and non-traditional issues over the short, medium and long term. Concerns can be found in how China wishes to develop and modernise and areas of focus include economic, political, military, science and technological, cultural and social, as well as space. The subject of China's Security Concerns and its National Security Strategy was being addressed by Maj.Gen. (Ret) Gong Xianfu, who was speaking at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), London, on 27 November 2012. Gen. Gong served with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) from 1960 to 2001. Since then he has served as Vice Chairman of the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CUSS).
