For the past 10 years, women in the US Armed Forces have served in unofficial combat roles at the ambiguous frontlines of Iraq and Afghanistan operations. Additionally, commanders have rapidly realised the benefit of using servicewomen on the battlefield through the use of ad hoc teams that are often tasked to work with combat arms units. Additionally, women are used daily in missions that entail high risk of direct fire, such as convoys with high exposure to lEDs. Women are fighting, earning some of the military's highest awards - but their combat experience remains unacknowledged and off the record ... that is, until now.
