Andrew Drwiega attended the Australian air show Avalon where military discussions centred around the US pivot towards the Asia Pacific and an in-depth briefing on the F-35 LIGHTNING Ⅱ. The Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition, otherwise known as Avalon 2013, did not match the expectations carried on from 2011 in terms of attendees, although there was a good showing by the major defence organisations that have a stake in the Australia/Asia aerospace defence market. The financial downturn restricted enthusiasm to a degree with comments being made about a change in outlook and government expenditure following the national elections due later this year in September. The on-going inclement weather kept casual visitors down with the event recording 168,000 of the six trade and public days.
