On 5 January 2012, U.S. President Barack Obama issued a strategic guideline document entitled "Sustaining U.S. Global Leadership: Priorities for 21st Century Defence." President Obama emphasized at the Pentagon that despite the defence budget cuts, the United States will try to maintain "the military superiority" in the world and shift its military focus to the Asia-Pacific region.
