MetaVR's IG (Virtual Reality Scene Generator-VRSG) is used in high-performance fixed-wing simulators in several US training programmes. In such simulators MetaVR VRSG delivers high-fidelity visuals and detailed geospecific terrain equal to any cited system in the article "Visualisation Systems" in MILITARY TECHNOLOGY 12/11. The author has overlooked MetaVR's expertise. Lower cost simulation IGs that run on COTS game-level PCs have changed the simulation industry significantly by offering an alternative to reliance on the high-cost proprietary hardware. The USAF has used MetaVR's real-time 3D visualisation software since 2001 in the A-10 training programme, which uses MetaVR visuals for the out-the-window and sensor views in its A-10 full-mission trainers (FMTs). These simulators consist of a high-fidelity replica of an A-10 aircraft cockpit, an Instructor Operator Station (IOS), a visual system and other equipment that provides trainees initial and ongoing training for flight, mission, and tactics.
