In order to provide first hand information on the technical features of TCG Heybeliada (F-511) corvette and the MilGem (National Vessel) programme, the Turkish Navy has organised a Press Tour and opened up TCG Heybeliada's doors to the media for the first time on 14 October 2011 at Istanbul Naval Shipyard. Representing Turkey's first locally designed, developed and constructed corvette-type combat vessel, TCG HEYBELIADA (F-511), the lead ship in the MilGem programme, was commissioned on 27 September 27 2011. As part of the press tour, 45 correspondents and cameramen from written and visual media of Turkey were transported to the TCG HEYBELIADA, which has been docked at Istanbul Naval Shipyard. As one steps onto the corvette, one thing is for sure: it's not a typical Navy ship. It is a modern littoral combat warship with indigenous capabilities, using extensive stealth technology in her design. The Turkish Navy's newest and most advanced vessel and her crew is currently (as time of writing) undergoing Combat Readiness Training and scheduled to join in with 1st Corvette Flotilla Commodore of Western Task Group Command of the Turkish Navy in November.
