MT: BTC conducts an enormous amount of tests and research on and with armoured and other military vehicles throughout the year in all conditions; what have you noticed when it comes to environmental effects on materiel? G. Jansson: As you mentioned we have performed a huge amount of tests of components and subsystems for different kinds of combat vehicles during the years. We also perform field tests on complete systems. The development and use of especially new materials and new designs of electronic systems has increased the durability of the materiel a lot. New materials like composite materials have also introduced other requirements when it comes to testing since these kinds of materials do not behave like e.g. metals. The development of the test methods along with the development of new materials has created a more efficient testing, quicker development programs and in the end more reliable products.
