After years of transformation, modernisation and new constellations, there are now signs in Germany that long-expected unmanned modernisation programmes might be gaining traction ... if only at an early stage. In Germany, the Bundeswehr is brainstor-ming the possibilities of modern UAS (in this the system is the headline, including payloads) and wether to choose fixed-wing or rotorcraft. Germany has long been thinking about replacing its KZO and LUNA tactical UAVs now used in Afghanistan, as with ALADIN and MIKADO. With no timeline in sight, the Bundeswehr, with no clear statement, has industry running in circles.
