Pakistan's defence industry is increasingly successful and might expand its capabilities and technological base, but the country will remain dependent on foreign suppliers for modern equipment for the foreseeable future. Accordingly, Pakistan follows a diversification strategy based on two strands: first, Islamabad seeks to strengthen ties with two core countries such as the US and China; and, second, Pakistan aims at forging relations with a host of (mainly) Muslim nations such as Turkey, Nigeria, and Indonesia to further enhance its strategy, since the country remains weary of the possibility of sanctions and military embargoes.
