The Iraqi government intends to buy Aero Vodochody L-159 advanced trainer/light-attack jets, Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said on 11 October in Prague after talks with his Czech counterpart Petr Necas.The Czech government hopes to sell Iraq up to 24 of the jets, Iraq used to operate the jet's predecessor, the L-39 Albatros. Russia will deliver attack helicopters and mobile air-defence systems to Iraq worth $4.2 billion. Moscow will supply 30 Mil Mi-28NE night/all-weather capable attack helicopters, and 50 PANTSIR-S1 gun-missile short-range air defence systems. The contracts, among the biggest ever signed between Iraq and Russia, were signed in April, July and August by Iraq's acting defence minister.
