In 2009, the Commonwealth government of Australia articulated in the Defence White Paper a picture of what the ADF will look like to 2030. The White Paper also described the tools available to government to meet a range of perceived threats over the next two decades. Importantly, noting the typically long acquisition lead time and in-service life cycle of major items of equipment, the White Paper also outlined some of the equipment that the ADF will likely be using to 2050 and beyond.
