摘要

Organised by the NDIA, the 2011 Biometrics Conference was held from 23-24 February in Arlington, Virginia. The two-day gathering of predominately industry representatives learned the US DoD is changing its acquisition strategy to improve life cycle support for its biometric tools and systems. Department representatives also provided their insights on future requirements for the technology. Biometrics are measurable biological (anatomical and physiological) and behavioural characteristics that can be used for automated recognition. Common modalities used in US DoD biometric equipment includes fingerprint, iris, palm prints and face recognition. Many devices and systems in use on the battlefield and in department facilities use multiple modalities in order to increase and improve accuracy in correlating the individual being screened to database files.
