MMRCA Shortlist and Protests: EUROFIGHTER and RAFALE have made to the top tier in the InAF's technical selection for an estimated U$15 billion order for 126 plus 63 Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA). Representatives of the two companies in the Indian capital were called to the MoD on 28 April, the day the commercial quotations submitted by the six competing vendors expired, and asked to revalidate their bids until 31 December within two weeks. Although initial reports indicated that they had been asked "only to extend the validity of their bids," there was some confusion as paragraph 55(a) of the Defence Procurement Procedure 2008 allows the option "to submit fresh commercial proposal. "This option in fact was given to all the six vendors in the fray when they were asked last year to extend their bids till 28 April 2011. For Eurofighter and Dassault, this would be the second extension accordingly.
