Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran will expand regional cooperation, said Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on 16 April 2o11, amid the release of a joint declaration toward this end. The declaration was issued in Orumiyeh, Iran following the first trilateral meeting of the three country's foreign ministers. That day turned out to be a very important day both in regards to Turkey's relations with Iran and in regards to developments in Caucasia, Davutoglu stated, speaking to reporters following the meeting as he recalled that Turkey and Iran also opened a new border crossing between Kapikoy in eastern Anatolia's Van and Iran's West Azerbaijan provinces.
