摘要

The ability to strike inland targets from the sea represents a dramatic change in terms of operational capabilities. Free of movement, independence from foreign basing, and prolonged presence, typical parameters of any naval doctrine, were the cornerstones of the military action during a number of operations. Since the TOMAHAWK land-attack missile (TLAM) became available to naval planners it has been used in a number of strikes, ranging from limited retaliations up to the massive opening of bombardment campaigns. Even during Operation "Enduring Freedom," a landlocked country, the largest contribution of strikes were generated by naval assets, be they carrier-based air sorties (70% of total), or ship-and submarine-launched TLAMs.
