ABG Shipyard Cleared to Build Warships for Indian Navy: India's ABG Shipyard Ltd., the country's biggest private shipbuilder, has recently received government clearance to build warships and support vessels for the Indian Navy. The shipyard received a licence on 26 May 2011 that will now allow it to build submarines, attack craft and propulsion systems for the Indian Navy. Wipro, EADS Subsidiaries Tie Up for Aerospace, Defence Manufacture: Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIE) has tied up with a subsidiary of EADS to manufacture engineered components for the aerospace and defence sector. The agreement with EADS' Spanish subsidiary, Compania Espanola De Sistemas Aeronauticos (CESA), will entail transfer of some technology and production workload for aerospace actuators and precision parts to Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIE). First Phase ofKarwar Naval Base Completed: The first phase of the Karwar Naval Base project has been completed with the commissioning of a civilian township at Amadalli, the last remaining construction activity associated with Phase-I of the project. Speaking at the commissioning of the project, Defence Minister A K Anthony said planning forthe second phase of the project was well underway and work will commence once the cabinet approves the expansion. Phase 2 of the project involves augmentation of facilities at the Naval base to cater for basing of additional ships and submarines at Karwar.
