Early September 2009, the Yemeni Army launched a new round of military operations against the Hauthis whose name derives from the movements' founder, Bader Eddine Al Hauthi who was killed by the Yemeni Army in 2004. The Hauthis, who pretend that their movement is a protest against poverty and discrimination, have accused Sanaa of being close to neighbouring Saudi Arabia , but recently a new alliance made up of Iran, the Hauthis and a few Yemeni tribes, is emerging as very active and ambitious, and it is becoming a strong political force in the country. They are supported by Iran which seeks a military foot close to Saudi Arabia border and the Southern Arabian Peninsula.
