The US Army has released the much-awaited Request for Proposals for the technology development phase of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle being developed under the overall Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) effort, marking an official start for defence contractors to begin competing for the right to build the service's next combat vehicle.rnThe Ground Combat Vehicle effort, formulated in the aftermath of the cancellation of large portions of the Future Combat Systems (FCS) project including most notably the entire planned family of new-generation AFVs, is part of a holistic Army plan to modernise its combat vehicle fleet.
