Policy documents of the Bundeswehr specify the use of aerial strike forces against ground and surface targets during multinational, joint and network-enabled operations. They must have the standoff capability to coordinatedly and precisely engage or suppress adversarial potential under nearly any weather conditions, by day and by night, while aiming to avoid undesirable collateral damage. The Luftwaffe currently has the 32nd Fighter Bomber Wing in Lechfeld, the 33rd Fighter Bomber Wing in Buchel, and the 51st Reconnaissance Wing "I" in Jagel at its disposal for such tasks, all equipped with the TORNADO weapon system.
