The French government has decided to fund the SISMARIS maritime surveillance project under a €6.8 million award with funds under the Fonds Unique Intermi-nisteriel (Single Interministerial Fund) scheme, set up to support collaborative R&D projects under the French government's competitiveness clusters initiative.rnThe DCNS-led SISMARIS R&D project (Systeme d 'Information et de Surveillance MARitime pour l'Identification des comporte-ments Suspects, maritime information and surveillance system for the identification of suspect behaviour) was launched to further the development of a complete information system and associated technologies for extended surveillance and analysis of maritime traffic. The future system will continuously track all types of vessels at up to 400km from the coast, compared to the range of 24km achieved with the world's most advanced systems today.
