The Eurofighter TYPHOON will be continually upgraded by capability enhancements over its service life. The pre-planned improvement route covers release of performance in a two-year cycle, with upgrades to be incorporated during scheduled maintenance operations.rnBlock 5 capabilities, as covered by the Main Development Contract became available since the end of 2006. These include air-to-air/air-to-ground swing role, carefree handling, and compatibility with network-centric operations.rnEnhanced air-to-ground capabilities through the integration of a laser designation pod (LDP) were achieved for the RAF during 2008.rnPhase 1 EnhancementsforTranche2aircraftareunder contract, with initial release to be available in 2011 and the final release by the end of 2012.
