A look into the largest air force in South America. Not too surprisingly, given the size of the country, Brazil has the largest air force in South America. Covering 8.5 million sq km, it is the fifth largest country in the world. That covers a lot of air space which, combined with sharing borders with ten countries, brings its own set of challenges. Just over two years ago, the Brazilian Air Force (Forca Aerea Brasileira -FAB) underwent a major reorganisation, which saw the previous General Command of Air Operations (COMGAR) and the four individual air force departments become the responsibility of the new Preparation Command (COMPREP).
