Leonardo believes that the Eurofighter TYPHOON'S rapidly reprogrammable electronic warfare (EW) system and open Mission Data, represents a competitive advantage that it had neglected to talk about before Paris Air Show 2019. Mark Hewer, Leonardo's Vice President for the Integrated Mission Solutions Business Area, briefed MT on the company's EW capabilities. The lethality of the environment that Eurofighter TYPHOON operates within is growing exponentially, especially with the emergence of a plethora of high-end, multi-spectral, medium- and long-range threats, including Surface to Air Missile systems like the SA-21 GROWLER (S-400 TRIUMF), SA-22 GREYHOUND (PANTSIR-S1), SA-25 (9K333 VERBA). Mark Hewer, told MT that: "One of the challenges is that these threats are software reprogrammable and are being updated more regularly. They are also networked, which allows them to share a lot more intelligence around what they see and the air situation."
