General Tod D. Wolters (USAF) is NATO's new Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) since 3 May 2019. The 58 years old General succeeds to Gen Curtis M. Scaparrotti (US Army) who took over this post on 4 May 2016. During a change of command ceremony at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons/Belgium,NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: "Those who have held the title 'SACEUR' have led our Alliance during the Cold War, deterring the Soviet Union. They stopped brutal wars in the Balkans, helped to defeat Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, and spread freedom and democracy across the nations of Europe."
