MT looks at some technology, programmes of record and business models in the rapidly evolving Simulation & Training (S&T) market space. As delegates and the MT editorial staff convene at 2019 l/ITSEC in Orlando, Florida this month, individuals, units and staffs in military services around the globe today are achieving their readiness requirements by training in the live, virtual and constructive domains. That model is being altered by a number of forcing functions. In one instance, defence departments are investing in more capable technologies to help immerse their service men and -women in more complex scenarios across multiple warfare domains through their continua of training. As a result, the services are able to achieve a higher readiness benchmark - training as they will operate and fight. As significant, the nature of conflict continues to quickly evolve. Insurgents and similar actors continue to quickly adapt to changing battlefield conditions from Iraq to Afghanistan to Yemen and beyond. Concurrently, the US and its allies and friends, are shifting their attention from these decade-plus conflict to the possibility of peer- or near-peer conflicts with Russia or China. And finally, military services are tailoring their training cycles to include ever more capable weapons platforms and weapons systems which will be entering orders of battle well beyond the next decade.
